COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT

Community Living Room

Volunteers can help with our drop in services. Make breakfast and lunch for people and help create a warm welcoming space for individuals to feel at home!

Street Outreach

Street outreach visits the community where they are at. We work with people who are experiencing homelessness as well as folks who are using substances to get them linked to medical, dental and behavioral health services and let them know about our various support groups and programs.

We currently offer a variety of volunteer opportunities through our Community Engagement department:

  • Community Living Room: Volunteers can help with our drop in services. Make breakfast and lunch for people and help create a warm welcoming space for individuals to feel at home!

    • Helping to prepare breakfast and lunch

    • Signing people in to get access to services

    • Linkage to services

    • Monitoring bathrooms

    • Assisting support groups

    • Setting up and breaking down the Living Room Space

    • Handing out harm reduction supplies

  • Street outreach: Street outreach visits the community where they are at. We work with people who are experiencing homelessness as well as folks who are using substances to get them linked to medical, dental and behavioral health services and let them know about our various support groups and programs. This happens all across various neighborhoods in San Francisco. Note: must be comfortable with walking for long periods of time, walking longer distances, and carrying supplies

  • Kitchen Duties: Assist with prepping breakfast and lunch for the community living room (kitchen experience not required but highly preferred)

    • Help with heating food up

    • Help with cleaning cooking equipment

    • Working with oven and stove

    • Food preparation for the community living room

    • Early morning shift (start at 8:00am)

  • Kit assembly: Kit assembly volunteers can help assemble hygiene and harm reduction kits to pass out to the community.

TRANS:THRIVE

TRANS(Transgender Resource and Neighborhood Space): THRIVE (Transgender Health & Resource Initiative for Vital Empowerment). Is a drop-in space and community center that aims to create safe spaces, events and services for the entire trans/GNC community in San Francisco. Located in the Tender Nob border of the city, Trans Thrive is more than a drop-in center, it’s services for US, by US.

TRANS:THRIVE is always seeking  for volunteers that can help in various ways such as during their daily operations, support groups, community outreach, special event and many more.  We are trans services for US, by US. Together, we can get to health, wellness, and equality. Everyone is respected in this space! If you are interested, click below to apply.

TRANS: THRIVE currently offer a variety of volunteer opportunities through our Trans Services department:

  • Drop-In Center: Volunteers can help with our drop-in services. Be part of a dynamic group of volunteers supervised by staff that make and serve hot meals for guests, help create a warm welcoming space for individuals to feel at home, and create a Trans Thrive community with values to live by!

    • Assisting staff prepare the drop-in and clean -up after drop-in hours

    • Providing and linking folks to services

    • Monitoring activities in the drop-in and in the bathrooms

    • Assisting staff setting-up support groups & group activities

    • Assist in handing out harm reduction supplies and safe sex supplies

    • Assist with the staging and operations of the SHE BOUTIQUE and Folk and Swagger

  • Street and Venue- based Outreach: Our Trans Services staff conduct street outreach and venue-based outreach to various locations, venues and events where the trans and GNC communities congregate and socialize. Always accompanied by staff, staff provides safer sex supplies, resources for housing and stable living, linking them to trans healthcare including dental through SFCHC’s wellness clinic and behavioral health services and programs for trans folks’ referrals to services to help in their daily lives. This happens across various neighborhoods in San Francisco. Note: must be comfortable going to places like sex clubs, dance bars, and should have a knack for conversing with a variety of folks and with standing for long periods of time, setting up tabling and carrying supplies at these venues. Must be 21 years old.

  • Kit Assembly Parties: Kit assembly volunteers can help assemble hygiene, harm reduction kits, safe sex kits that are passed out at community events, tabling and outreach to the community.

  • Special Events: TRANS:THRIVE hosts special events for trans/GNC communities all throughout the year. Volunteers are provided opportunities to help set-up and breakdown, operations of the event, support the events in different capacities.  Such events are Transgender Day of Visibility, Trans March, SF Pride, Folsom Street Fair, Show of Hope Gala, National Transgender HIV Testing Day, World AIDS Day, Transgiving, Sparkle Holiday Ball and TDOR.

The BOOTique

“The BOOTique” (after Taimon Booton) is a gender affirming shopping boutique for our guests at TBNC. Are you into fashion? Looking to give back to community? Have a passion for Organizing? Our in-house shopping closet is full of wonderful donations that need regular love and attention. We basically run a lil thrift store, inside of a shipping container, under the freeway.
