Lance Toma is NMAC's New Board Chair

NMAC would like to extend a warm welcome to Lance Toma, our newly appointed board chair! A dedicated member of NMAC’s board since 2007 and vice chair since 2014, Lance shared his enthusiasm for his role as the new board chair: “It is an honor to serve as NMAC’s board chair. I have been a long-time passionate supporter and admirer of NMAC’s work and our core values of racial justice and health equity. Our board is 100% committed wholeheartedly to seeing an end to the HIV epidemic and ensuring that communities of color remain front and center in this valiant effort.”
 
Lance has been involved in HIV work and advocacy since the mid-90s when he worked at Horizons Community Services (now known as Center on Halsted). He is currently the Chief Executive Officer of San Francisco Community Health Center (formerly API Wellness Center), an LGBTQ and people of color community health center that believes everyone deserves to be healthy and needs access to the highest quality health care. Lance has worked at the health center since 1999 and became CEO in 2006.
 
For the past 11 years, Lance has served as co-chair of the San Francisco HIV/AIDS Providers Network, a membership coalition of 30+ organizations that comprise the HIV safety net in San Francisco. He has served on the board of the Communities Advocating Emergency AIDS Relief (CAEAR) Coalition since 2015. He also serves on the board of CenterLink because he cares deeply about the power and impact of LGBTQ community centers across the country. In 2020, Lance was appointed to the California Commission on Asian American and Pacific Islander Affairs and currently serves as Secretary of the Commission.
 
Lance was born and raised in Hawaii. He received a Master’s degree in social service administration from the University of Chicago. Welcome, Lance!
